UAE Pavilion "Wings"

Designed by architect Santiago Calatrava the UAE Pavilion is based on the shape of a falcon in flight. Premier Composite Technologies proposed a concept using advanced composite materials for the wings and the cladding. The up to 65 meters long wings are now made of moulded hybrid carbon- and glass fibre reinforced shells. This material choice enabled a smooth curved geometry and very lightweight, stiff wing structures.

Each movable wing is supported by a steel beam with the rotation of the wings being driven by a hydraulic actuator system that allows the wings to open and close. The lightweight concept was also beneficial during installation and allowed each wing to be hoisted in one piece.

The entire PCT team is proud to be able to work on this extraordinary building which hosted the opening ceremony of the EXPO 2020 in Dubai.
