Carkeek 40MKII - Designers Comment

The Carkeek 40 MKII is a development of recent highly successful Grand Prix TP and IRC 52 designs. Experience and accurate design input data gained in the TP 52, GP 42 classes, and lightweight IRC design allowed the team at Carkeek Design Partners to refine its balance requirements.

The Carkeek 40 MKII incorporates the latest grand prix thinking into its design. Particular attention has been paid to developing a hull form which planes downwind easily and sustains high speeds even in light airs, but has enough stability to perform exceptionally upwind, and support its large power to weight ratios in heavier conditions.

The yacht’s naval architecture and appendage sizing and configuration were carefully evaluated using our in-house software and engineering expertise. The high performance hull form and appendage shapes were optimized following extensive CFD, VPP and race model analyses to ensure high performance on the water.

Externally the layouts are optimized for stiffness, low VCG, low drag, and enhanced ergonomics for quick, efficient and safe manoeuvres. The large racing deck layout provides an ergonomic platform to work from, and harnesses the latest TP 52 detailing. The pedestal system is located aft to improve weight distribution.

Internally the yacht is optimized for maximum stiffness and weight distribution with a clean, open structural layout to help sail handling and maximize safety on board.

To suit budgets, the Carkeek 40 MKII is offered in three editions: Race, Grand Prix and Grand Prix Custom:

Grand Prix Custom Edition:
Pre-preg carbon/epoxy/Nomex sandwich construction

Grand Prix Edition:

Infused carbon/epoxy/foam sandwich construction

Race Edition: IRC Optimized

Infused E-glass/epoxy/foam sandwich construction
