PCT's automotive unit consists of experienced engineers with a long working history at automotive OEMs or Tier 1 suppliers. Members of our team have worked on long term body engineering of series of cars as well as in development of carbon parts for racing or super sports cars.
Owing to improvement of driving dynamics by less weight and lower centre of gravity, sports and racing cars were early adopters of composites. Carbon fibres have the best properties for lightweight design. Composites allow more freedom in design. They also do not have the fatigue and corrosion issues associated with metals.
Over the years weight of the vehicles has been increased because of better equipment and more features have to be compensated. The additional weight of the electrical vehicles' batteries has to be compensated for both conventional cars but more so for electric and hybrid vehicles. Due to stricter legal regulations, the OEM's are required to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions which can in part be achieved by lighter vehicles.
Our in-house capabilities for design and structural analysis allow us to select and develop the best production processes, tooling and mould design, manufacturing of all tooling, prototypes, including prepreg materials, autoclave technology, sampling, pre-series and series production of large volumes utilizing press technologies through automation of many aspects of the process.
